In case you missed my post last week, I am embarking on six weeks of travel! Though travel is full of fun, adventures, and learning, it also means exposure to new germs, a change of climate, different food, and (in my case) mosquitoes. So in this post, I am sharing with you some amazing travel essentials that can help you out while you're on the go!
1. Bite Me Oil
I'm the girl that wakes up covered in mosquito bites when everyone else only gets one or two mosquito bites. It's almost impossible to enjoy anything or even think about anything else when your skin is constantly itchy and irritated. Unfortunately, most "natural" bug sprays never work for me, in part because they are water-based, and in humid climates, wash off quickly with perspiration. In the end, I usually resorted to toxic DEET-based sprays, just to maintain a basic level of comfort. But thankfully, we have a great solution. Bite Me Oil is a neem oil-based insect repellant that not only keeps pesky bugs away, but nourishes your skin. It's a wonderful and long-lasting travel essential that will be a staple for me this summer!
2. Stomach Soothing Tea
Travel (especially overseas) means delicious new food- but also the risk of an upset stomach. I've had acidic reactions to heavy restaurant foods, as well as multiple episodes of food poisoning, while traveling abroad. Stomach Soothing Tea is a wonderful blend that helps abate gastric distress and relieve inflammation in the gut. So if you're adventurous and like to experiment with new foods, be sure to take some of this amazing tea along with you! I sure will be drinking lots of it! (And if you're short on space or don't want to bring an infuser, bring a box of Drawstring Paper Filters- they're compact and last forever!)
3. Lavender Essential Oil
Adjusting to a new environment can be stressful, and if you're like me, you want to enjoy your trip to its fullest. Thankfully, there's an excellent (and compact) shortcut to calm- lavender essential oil! Add it to your diffuser or mix a couple drops into your favorite carrier oil and spread on your pulse points. In a few minutes, you'll notice a nice feeling of calm take over. And if you like to drink tea to relax, try Anxiety Relief or Daily Calm.
4. Four Thieves Oil or Mist
One of the most unfortunate drawbacks of travel is exposure to germs. Airplanes are infested with harmful bacteria, and putting your laptops and luggage into dirty security bins doesn't help. Once you arrive at your new destination, you may be exposed to germs that your body has never dealt with. It's always a good idea to carry a non-toxic disinfectant. Luckily, Four Thieves is a fantastic way to disinfect your belongings and protect yourself from harmful germs. You can use it as an oil or mist.
5. Herbal Septic Throat Spray
If you do happen to get a cold or are exposed to bad germs, don't fear- just grab some Herbal Septic Throat Spray and spritz your throat. This super-effective concoction is also amazing for disinfecting minor cuts or wounds. I take this with me everywhere I go!
6. Daily Detox Tea
Last but certainly not least, Daily Detox Tea is a must when it comes to staying healthy and energized on a trip. Especially if you're trying new foods, you'll want to make sure that you keep your liver and kidneys in top shape, so you don't have any setbacks. And for me, this tea does double duty, often taking the place of my daily green juice. If you like to juice but also like to travel, this is a great option!
