Sencha

Traditional Japanese green tea

Next Previous

Classic Japanese green tea, unlike Chinese green teas which are pan fired Japanese teas are steamed before drying,  this gives the tea more of a green, grassy, vegetal, even seaweed like flavor.  Sencha is the most popular tea in Japan and accounts for 80 percent of the countries tea production.

Brewing instructions: steep one teaspoon of Sencha in hot water for 1 to 3 minutes. Adjust amounts and steeping time to personal preference.

For iced tea, steep 2 Tablespoons of Sencha per 1 quart of water for 1 to 3 minutes. Strain, and pour over ice.

Tasty tip: Make a minty green iced tea by brewing it with fresh spearmint or peppermint. An extra sprig or 2 of fresh oregano will add a unique tasty twist.
