Andrew did some research into the ingredients in our Sleek & Slender tea blend to satisfy both his curiosity and the number one question from customers: does this tea actually work?

Here is what he discovered…

One of the primary ingredients is white tea, made from the same plant that produces green, black, oolong, and puehr teas. This family of teas all have similar beneficial effects on weight loss, BMI (body mass index, which measures body fat in relation to height), reducing fat absorption, and thermogenesis. There was a study that showed white tea in particular not only helps increase fat loss, but also helps prevent fat gain.

Cinnamon is another main player in this blend. There are over 250 varieties of cinnamon, but the scientific research focused on two of the main and most popular varieties – Ceylon cinnamon, and cassia cinnamon. Multiple studies have shown that both types of cinnamon are useful in controlling blood sugar. Cinnamon also increases circulation, which aids the body’s detoxification process. Like many of the other ingredients in Sleek & Slender, cinnamon is also a well-known digestive aid. 

I added dandelion root to this blend to nourish and support the liver. Andrew discovered a study that showed that dandelion root extracts demonstrated antioxidant activity that reduced atherosclerosis, which is a buildup of plaque inside the arteries.

Garcinia is a sour-tasting herb that shows preliminary evidence in improving appetite control and reduction. It has a reputation for interfering with fat production, but more study is needed in order to prove this. Garcinia shows promise in making it easier for your body to utilize glucose and lower blood sugar levels.

Ginger is a digestive aid, increases circulation, helps break down proteins in the digestive tract, and, according to a study, may help with thermogenesis. Ginger improves blood flow, and may assist in reducing inflammation.

Fennel seeds were used by the ancient Greeks as a diet aid. They named the herb “maraino” which means “to grow thin”. Modern studies show that fennel and other spices increase digestive activity, which assists with fat metabolism and breakdown.

Chickweed is an herb with a folk reputation for weight loss. Herbalist Susun Weed claims that chickweed removes fat from your cells. There might be some validity to her claim, as a study on mice (I know, I hate animal studies too) showed that chickweed actually does have anti-obesity properties due to several of the chemical compounds that occur naturally in the plant.

Gymnema is a remarkable herb from India. Although the name is a little challenging (pronounced Jim Neema) it has been thoroughly researched, with promising conclusions in the realm of blood sugar control, and weight management. Gymnema contains a chemical called gymnemic acid, which fills in the sugar receptors on the tongue, blocking your perception of sweet flavors for anywhere between 20 minutes and two hours. Interestingly enough, gymnemic acid also attaches to sugar receptors in the small intestine, which may reduce the amount of sugar absorbed in the digestive tract. Gymnema also reduces sugar cravings in a relatively short period of time.

Peppermint is a refreshing element to this blend, not only for its enlivening flavor, but also because it soothes digestion and helps relieve gas and bloating after meals. It also helps increase feelings of alertness and energy.
