Actions, properties: although both leaf and root are beneficial for liver and kidneys, the leaf has a greater affinity with the kidneys, and the root with the liver – the root is more of a laxative, the leaf more of a diuretic. The root contains inulin, making it beneficial in situations of adult onset diabetes and hypoglycemia. Indications:

Leaf – water retention, edema, gout

Root – hypoglycemia, adult onset diabetes, jaundice, hepatitis

Both leaf and root – autointoxication, blood disorders, anemia, chronic skin eruptions, PMS, allergies, emotional repression, anger issues, rheumatism, arthritis

Contraindications: should be avoided by those with allergies to Dandelions; acute stomach inflammation, IBS, bile duct obstruction, bile duct cancer, pancreatic cancer, intestinal obstruction

Methods of preparation and dosage: incorporate young raw leaves in salads

Leaf capsules – 1 – 2 caps 1 – 3x daily

Root capsules – 1 – 3 caps 1 – 3x daily

 

 Leaf combines well with: for heart-related edema – Hawthorn, Cornsilk

leafy alteratives – Red Clover, Cleavers, Nettles, Horsetail

for UTI – Uva Ursi, Marshmallow root, Usnea

Root combines well with: liver  alteratives – Yellowdock, Burdock, Milk Thistle, Oregon Grape root
