A Summer Green Tea Ginger Lemonade Recipe

A Summer Green Tea Ginger Lemonade Recipe

Ok, creative foodies, let’s make a yummy summer drink recipe. It’s a zingy blend of lemon and lime juice, with spicy ginger, and healthy green tea. There are many types of green tea, and all of them are really good for you, so just pick your favorite. New to green tea and don’t have a fave yet? Start with Gunpowder, which has a lot of flavor, and many green tea newbies like this one best.

Some of the health benefits from this  green tea recipe include: more energy, better digestion, enhanced fat burning, and loads of antioxidants that help prevent disease and slow signs of aging. This is a real power drink that tastes great and will help you feel amazing.

Check out these iced teas that promote weight loss!

For the concentrate, you will need:

  • 2 cups lemon juice
  • 2/3 cup lime juice
  • 5 ounces fresh ginger that has been peeled and minced
  • 1 1/3 cup agave nectar or maple syrup

Start by making the ginger lemonade concentrate. The recipe makes 4 cups of concentrate, and it will store in the refrigerator for about a week. If you don’t think you will use that much, cut the recipe in half.

If you want to juice the citrus yourself, you will need a LOT of lemons, but you will get a good arm workout with all the squeezing. (If you have kids, you can put them to work.)

You can also buy bottled lemon and lime juice, so don’t stress yourself.

You can process the fresh ginger by hand, or pulse it in the food processor once you have peeled it.

You will also need some green tea, and not the teabag schwag from the grocery store, but the real deal (like the kind you get from Loose Leaf, wink wink). Seriously, there is no comparison when it comes to flavor and health benefits. Use the good stuff. Top green tea picks: Gunpowder, Jasmine, or caffeine-free Mango Green.

Optional garnishes include lime wheels, lemon wedges, fresh mint sprigs, or coarse sugar to rim the glasses (sooo fancy).

To prepare:

Blend all of the concentrate ingredients, and refrigerate. Pro tip: put the date on the bottle, so you know how long it will stay fresh.

Next, brew the green tea. How much, you ask? You will need approximately 1 teaspoon of tea leaves for every cup of water.

Another pro tip: For brewing perfect green tea, make sure the water isn’t too hot. Boil the water, and let it sit for 2 minutes before pouring it on the tea.

For 4 people, steep 4 teaspoons of green tea in hot water for 1 to 2 minutes. Set a timer, because over-brewed green tea is the reason people call green tea “bitter”. Properly brewed green tea is nutty, grassy, and slightly sweet.

Strain out the tea leaves and cool the tea in the freezer for a few minutes.

To serve: blend 2 ounces of the ginger-lemon-lime concentrate and 6 ounces of green tea, and pour over ice.

Feel free to tweak the proportions to suit your taste. Add more concentrate for more sweetness and zing, or use less for more green tea flavor.

Enjoy!
